The world is a dangerous enough place without having to think of things like Shadowspawn, demons, and all the things that go bump in the night. Unforunately, Shadowspawn are very real and Miss Rachelle Raine, only daughter of the Earl of Raine, manages to get herself embroiled in the schemes and machinations of a very dark, very dangerous world that's been kept a secret from the human race for as long as time. Always a bit of an eccentric, her family wants nothing to do with her, going so far as to push her off into a rented townhouse, alone, and leaving her to her own devices.

Gabriel Dashiell was a childhood friend until he disappeared without a trace or even a goodbye ten years ago. His mysterious return to London coincides with a surge of Shadowspawn that is completely unprecendented. But Gabriel has a secret. He's a Hunter, the one predator that the Shadowspawn fear.

When it becomes clear that Rachelle is key to the Hunters' success in keeping the Shadowspawn darkness at bay, Gabriel has no choice but to pull her even further into the world he'd left London for. The world he'd keep her out of at any cost if he could.
